The Department of Geography, Sangamner College, Sangamner is one of the superior in Pune university which is a flourishing and expanding academic community committed to high standards of teachings and applied research. The department was establishment in 1971 with UG courses where as the PG courses were started from 2007.

Mission of the Department

Mission of the Department is to ‘Application of Geography for ‘Teaching, Research & Extension Activities in the college for Students Empowerment, Institutional & Social Development’ with a dedicated work.

The key subfields studied at the department include Physical Geography, Human Geography, Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS) and its interaction with society. In GIS, particular emphasis is on remote sensing, statistical and numerical modeling, and the application of GIS for conservation, spatial analysis, and land mapping. Within the Physical-environment theme, the emphasis is on how the physical environment affects the human life and its activities. In human geography, we focus on transportation, economic geography, regional development, urban-economic restructuring, globalization, tourism, and landscape. The study tour, fieldwork is a frequently activity of the department, which makes the study more exciting and practically.

The teaching, learning process is accomplished through Laboratory Practical, Study Tour, Consultancy practices, and project work.

Awards

Department has received the Best Department Award in College (Best 5S)-2010 for the effective work and smartness in departmental infrastructure. Mr. Sainath Aher has received Young Geographer Award from Deccan Geographical Society, India in Dec 2010. Similarly, Mr. Sandip Deshmukh has received the Best Teacher Award in College (2014).

The intake capacity at S. Y. Special level is 61 and 24 at PG level. Nearby, 10 research Projects are completed and 01 project financed by UGC, New Delhi is ongoing. Similarly, 19 research papers are published in various international and national journals.

Department is always concerned about the natural and social environment employing Socio-Economic & Environmental Survey, Continues monitoring of Pravara River etc.
