Dr. Shriniwas Onkar Hemade

The existing faculty Dr. Shriniwas Onkar Hemade (Associate Professor and Head) joined the department in 1991 as Head and Lecturer after the retirement of Prof. Potfode. Dr. Shriniwas is well versed in Indian and Greek-Western philosophy as well as various branches of Applied Philosophy and Applied Ethics.

He is member of various academic and professional bodies. He is presently member of board of studies in Philosophy and Logic, SPPU, Pune and Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He is ex-member of the said bodies since last 25 years. He is ex-member of the Faculty of Mental, Moral and Social Sciences, SPPU. Pune for three terms consecutively.

He is the architect of newly formed syllabuses of Philosophy and Logic, SPPU, Pune as the SPPU has adopted the SCBCS pattern from the academic year 2019. He is honored as Co-coordinator of the BOS of Philosophy and Logic, SPPU, Pune.

He has awarded and honored by various Govt. academic bodies as well. The State Govt. of Maharashtra, National Translation Mission, etc. have honored him.

He is member of editorial boards of the various philosophical and literary magazines.

Dr. Shriniwas is academic researcher and writer, translator and free-lance journalist. He has been writing since 25 years in various magazines, periodicals, and news publications at state and national level.

The Prizes
  • Dr. Shriniwas Hemade has been prized and honored as The First Recipient of (Late) Pracharya Shivajirao Bhosale Prize for the year 2016 for his weekly column called "Tattvabhan" (तत्त्वभान) published in "Loksatta" (लोकसत्ता- An Indian Express Group's sister publication in Marathi) during 2014 for the entire year. The column devoted to introduction of Philosophy to common people and stakeholders. Pracharya Shivajirao Bhosale was the professor of Philosophy, renowned public intellectual as well as public speaker of Maharashtra.

Courses

The Department offers a course in Philosophy as an 'academic discipline' at the general as well as special level (Philosophy Major) for the degree of B.A.

The Department of Philosophy welcomes all the students who aspire to build their career in Philosophy.

Syllabuses

The department has adopted the policy of forming the new syllabuses from the academic year 2020-21 in tune with the autonomous status of the college. New syllabuses framing process is in progression according to new SCBCS pattern. The FYBA syllabus is framed and implanted from the year.

Objectives of the department

  • To inculcate critical and systematic thinking in student's mind as well as common stakeholders have in general.

  • The department seeks to develop among students a spirit of critical inquiry and an urge to explore and expand the horizons of knowledge.
