The UG department was established in 1961, and the PG department in 1977. Ours is one of the few aided PG centres in English under Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. There are three Professors with PhD in the department. The department enjoys the reputation being the first research centre in English for M Phil and PhD in Ahmednagar district. There are three recognized research guides in the department – Prof. Dr R. B. Tasildar (Head of the department and Co-ordinator, Post Graduate Research Centre), Prof. Dr U. S. Jagadale and Prof. Dr D.M. Ghodke.

Apart from qualifying SET/NET, many of the students have obatined success in MPSC and other competitive examaninations. Along with equipping students of the department with the knowledge of English Language and Literature, the department provides various platforms to its students to develop their communication skills in English and Soft/Life Skills. Many of the students from the department have shown their active participation and got success in research and skill-development activities at various levels.
