The Chemistry department of S.P. Sanstha's Sangamner College was established in 1967. This is one of the largest Science Department of the College. The Department of Chemistry has grown considerably over the course of 58 years. The Department offers the courses of B. Sc. in Chemistry at the UG Level. A non-grant course in M. Sc. Organic Chemistry started in 1995. Later on, the M. Sc. Analytical Chemistry course also started in 2007. Each course has two batches of 24 students. The department has a well-furnished research center to conduct research with guide teachers for Ph. D. degree.
There are experienced and well-qualified faculty members for UG and PG classes. In the last few years, faculty members of the Department completed around 21 major, minor and mini-research projects funded by UGC, BCUD, and S.P. Sanstha. The Department has a recognized Research Centre for Chemistry. 17 students have been awarded Ph.D. degree. in the research centre. The Department has successfully organized 02 International, 04 National conferences, and a number of workshops for students .
The Department has received grants of 48 lakhs from DST-FIST and DBT, New Delhi. The department has well-equipped and well-furnished spacious laboratories with various sophisticated research instruments and equipment like FTIR, Rotary evaporator, UV visible spectrophotometer, Digital melting point apparatus, Parallel reaction station, Microwave, sonicators, etc.
More than 100 research papers have been published in reputed journals and also national and international patents. Many Department students carried out their projects in the SRS Project Competition by S.P. Sanstha. The Department organizes Campus interviews, NET/SET workshops for M.Sc. students, Workshops for Soil and Water testing for farmers etc. every year. Many of our students successfully clear competitive examinations like SET, NET, IIT Entrance, GATE, and CSIR examinations. To date number of students are placed in various sectors such as pharmaceutical, chemical and teaching in the country and abroad.
